German international, İlkay Gündoğan, returns to Manchester City from the Catalan club after spending over a year with them at the Montjuic. İlkay Gündoğan was transferred to Barcelona after winning the English Premier League with Pep Guardiola. He captained his team to win the treble in the 2022/23 season.
In his interview upon his return, he disclosed how happy he was to return home, and he was filled with pure joy and contentment. “My seven years at Manchester City were a time of pure contentment for me, both on and off the pitch,” he told the club website. “I grew as a person and a player, developed a special relationship with the City fans, and enjoyed amazing success. It was an exceptional period in my life”, he said.
He again added that, he cannot wait to wear a Manchester City shirt again. “To have the opportunity to return here means so much.What can I say about my team-mates here at City, they are world-class footballers. I am genuinely delighted to have the chance to train and play alongside them.Honestly, I cannot wait to wear the City shirt again.”, he added.

İlkay Gündoğan won 14 major trophies in his first spell at the Etihad. He helped his team win the Champions League against Inter Milan. He recently announced his retirement from international football alongside Manuel Neuer. Gundogan has featured in 304 games in seven seasons for Manchester City and has scored 60 goals.
He scored the quickest goal in the history of the FA Cup final against Manchester United. Just a week after setting this record, he led his team to lift their first ever Champions League trophy.
His move to FC Barcelona came after he won the UCL with Man City. His time at Barcelona wasn’t fruitful for him as the Catalan club placed second behind rivals, Real Madrid. They were knocked out by PSG in the quarter-finals of the UCL after winning 3-2 away at the Parc des Princes.
