The Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, has rallied support for this year’s Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Charity Cup Match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kpando Hearts of Lions.
Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Nii Ayi Bontey, Gbese Mantse expressed his dissatisfaction over Accra Great Olympics FC’s refusal to honor his invitation to participate in last year’s edition of the Homowo Peace Charity Cup.
He has since cut ties with the club, which had traditionally competed in the annual event against Hearts of Oak.
“Accra Great Olympics will never participate in Homowo Cup again due to the disrespect they showed by not honoring my invitation last year,” Nii Ayi-Bonte stated.
This year’s edition, scheduled for Sunday, 11 August, at 3 pm, will feature Accra Hearts of Oak and Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium. This forms part of activities to mark this year’s Homowo celebrations. It is also to promote peace before, during, and after the 2024 general election in Accra in particular and the country as a whole.
The match will allow both clubs to parade their newly signed players and test their preparedness for the 2024/25 league season.
Accra Great Olympics has consistently competed against Hearts of Oak in previous editions, and this decision marks a significant shift in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Premier League is scheduled to begin on the 6th of September 2024. Matchday 1 will begin from 6th to 9th September.
According to the schedule, matchday 34 will be played on the 7th and 8th June, 2025.
